A beautiful town located between Nice and Monaco on France 's Cote d'Azur, Villefranche-sur-Mer offers expats a 'quieter, more intimate take on Riviera life'.
Jennifer reveals: 'With its pastel-coloured village homes, sweeping bay views and strong community of part-time expats, it's a place where expats feel instantly welcome.'
She adds that the town's cultural life 'thrives year-round' with open-air concerts, art exhibitions and jazz nights at 'cosy harbourside clubs'.

Toulon, France

Toulon is a hidden treasure along the Cote d'Azur that often gets overlooked compared to its glamorous neighbors such as Nice and Cannes.
Jennifer points out that this 'sunlit harbour town' provides Mediterranean-style 'quality of life' features like 'oceanfront residences, over 300 sunny days annually, and an energetic culinary landscape', all available at a considerably 'affordable price point'.
She shares: 'At the Mourillon seaside area, seniors engage in activities like swimming, practicing yoga, or sipping wine at cafes near the coves.'

Esposende, Portugal

Esposende, which has the feel of a tranquil seaside village, is situated in the Braga District of northern Portugal.
"Residents relish sea breezes, a charming historical downtown featuring an exceptional boat-shaped fountain sculpture, along with easily strollable, predominantly level landscapes ideal for older adults," explains Jennifer.
She adds that it's a popular area for outdoor activities with many residents enjoying surfing, golf and horse-riding in their free time.
A two-bedroom apartment ranges from $872 to $1,090/£649 to £811, and expatriates can maintain a frugal lifestyle.
Guimarães, Portugal

This historic city goes by the title of the 'cradle of Portugal.' has medieval character, a UNESCO designated centre and 'vibrant contemporary culture' .
While its old town has cobbled lanes and Gothic architecture, the city is also home to modern cafes, restaurants and boutiques.
Jennifer shares: "Guimaraes isn’t your typical museum experience; it’s a vibrant, progressive urban center teeming with active students and gaining an increasingly global presence."
The approximate monthly expense for sustaining life as a duo is about $1,800/£1,340.
Santo Tirso, Portugal

Santo Tirso is a 'gem along the river' situated in northern Portugal, combining 'historical allure with serene living'.
The town is most famous for its 10th-century monastery, however, it also boasts thermal spas and features an urban beach.
Jennifer notes: "Retirees will find value in its cost-effectiveness and laid-back ambiance. Those looking for natural beauty, tranquillity, and the charm of a close-knit community might consider Santo Tirso as an attractive starting point."
One-bedroom furnished flats in Santo Tirso typically rent for about $925/£688 per month.
Villa Nova de Famalicao, Portugal

Described as a 'contemporary middle-class city' in northern Portugal, Villa Nova de Famalicao is noted for its growth by International Living.
The city is merely 20 minutes away from Porto and boasts 'top-notch infrastructure,' 'robust transportation connections,' along with a vibrant youthful vibe.
'The town is walkable, has ample green space and even offers co-working areas in the local libraries,' says Jennifer.
A four-bedroom apartment costs around $1,516/£1,128 a month while the cost of a one-bedroom apartment starts from $179,000/£133,282.
Litochoro, Greece

Located between the Aegean Sea and Mount Olympus, Litochoro has a 'rare blend of alpine charm and coastal access'.
In the town of Litochoro, which has a population of around 7,000 inhabitants, you can experience its lively community spirit and enjoy the nearby top-notch trekking paths.
Jennifer mentions: "Although the number of expats is modest, they form a friendly and engaged group, particularly attractive to those fond of nature, remote workers, and people looking for retirement."
A flat with two bedrooms in Litochoro is priced at approximately $270-$380/£201-£283 each month.
Ascoli Piceno, Italy

Located in the central Marche area of Italy, Ascoli Piceno boasts an age older than Rome itself and exudes great splendor.
The city’s center has been dubbed an ‘architectural marvel’ by International Living, featuring churches, piazzas, palaces, boutique shops, and cafés.
