Brown bears will consume nearly anything and can detect food using their sense of smell and sight. During colder periods when hunting becomes difficult due to weather conditions, these animals might retreat into hibernation for as long as six months. When stood upright, they have the potential to reach approximately 5 feet 7 inches in height and can tip the scales at over 400 pounds.
